Thank you to Bridlington who came over en masse and all our supporter who joined us at the Gannock last night for our first pre-season game in the build up to our 2026/27 campaign.

It was incredibly pleasing seeing a lot of future Malton & Norton players and their parents enjoying the summer sun in support. The game was a structured 3x25 minute match with Malton having 34 players changed ready with two selected XV swapping on and off at the intervals. Bridlington arrived with a strong competitive 18 with support from some of our men caused both our selected XV problems.

Our squads last night bolstered by new signings Olly, Will, Dom certainly had to work had to get anything at the breakdown, there was a lot of scrummaging and a lot of turnovers on both side.

Bridlington struck first within a minute of the first whistle a sharp turnover and breakaway led to a try out wide.

A lot of hard work to get back into the game before Paul Angus barged his way over to make it one try apiece after 25.

Our second select XV rolled on in the middle 25, the first 15 of which didn’t see much ball at all only the occasional turnover and clearences before Bridlington spun the ball to both wings and dot over twice. 1:3

They worked hard nearing the end of their spell and had a long time camped in the Bridlington 22 but the usual 3 points or territory gaining kick to the corners were given up for running rugby, ultimately we left with nothing.

The break came and went and the final third was a mix of teams with us helping Bridlington out when needed. Bill Collier danced in from our own 10m, before an intercept extended Bridlington lead. 2:4

Multiple line breaks came to nothing before Ali Fothergill channelled his inner Lebron James and sent an overhead pass to send Bill away for his second. 3:4

As the minutes edged away some late forward drives sent Dunny over under the sticks. 4:4.
